Hero Guide[]

Summary[]

Purgatory Meliodas was released as the featured unit of the New Year's Festival Banner (January 3rd, 2023 - January 30, 2023). Purgatory Meliodas was the second Darkness-type unit added to the game. With entirely new effects, Meliodas provides a faster way of dealing damage to his enemies while also giving protection to his allies than his predecessor (Dark Traitor Meliodas). Although it has fallen off, Meliodas is still a strong unit that can force your enemies to play in a specific way if they don’t want to be defeated.

Pros[]

  • Has high stats
  • He does not need dupes as an ultimate low-level can still get the job done
  • Incredible single and AOE attack cards
  • Passive acts as a self cleanse
  • Works well in Demon and non-demon teams
  • Deals extra damage to enemies with a Stance or a debuff.

Cons[]

  • Vulnerable to attack seal units. Summer Merlin's attack seal bypasses Meliodas’s passive as it's applied after his True Magic effect becomes active.
  • All 3 Shackles need to be removed in order to get the most damage out of Purgatory Meliodas.
  • Damage Cap buff can be removed by Buff Removal if his Ultimate Move is below 6/6.
  • Enemies that can Decrease Pierce Rate can hinder the extra damage of his attack.
  • Damage reduction from Shackles of Purgatory only works on Demon allies so any allies in battle who's not of the Demon Race will take full damage from enemy attacks

Skill Review[]

Pierce and Strike - Purgatory Meliodas’s first skill is a single target introducing the Frenzy effect, which does more damage depending on the enemy's remaining health. Furthermore, it doubles Meliodas’ Pierce Rate, adding even more damage.

Chain Slash -  This is an AOE attack card that does average damage. It adds the effect Slash, adding half of Meliodas’ Pierce Rate to the damage. If you play in a composition including Blue Festival Berserk Estarossa, this should be your opening attack to grant more stats to your units, thanks to his Darkness.

Ultimate Move: Trillion Dark - Purgatory Meliodas’ Ultimate Move deals AOE damage. It has two different effects, one offensive and one defensive. Magic Burst ignores a percentage of Crit Resistance and Crit Defense, increasing the potential damage it can do. On the other hand, it provides Meliodas with a Suppress Damage Taken buff, effectively placing a damage cap on him and preventing your enemies from eliminating him right after using the Ultimate. However, remember that this buff is removable until 5/6, while at 6/6, it becomes a gray buff.

Unique: Shackles of Purgatory - Meliodas’ Unique is the core of his strategy and why he’s so strong. First, there’s a gray buff with three charges called Shackles of Purgatory, which reduces the damage taken by Demon allies by 20%. Meliodas loses one stack if he attacks or if one of his allies or Meliodas himself receives damage.

If all three stacks of Shackles of Purgatory get removed, Meliodas applies himself a True Magic gray buff, which Removes all Debuffs and increases his Attack-related Stats by 50%. As soon as Meliodas attacks, he loses True Magic, and all 3 Shackles of Purgatory stacks will be placed again on him, thus restarting the cycle again.

Furthermore, Meliodas will increase the damage he deals on enemies using a Stance or under the effects of a Debuff. Also, if an enemy doesn’t use a skill, Meliodas will apply a debuff to that enemy that removes one orb from their Ultimate Move Gauge for two turns.

Gear Recommendation[]

The gear recommended for Purgatory Meliodas will be HP and Defense gear sets. This is because Purgatory Meliodas already has amazing attack stats and his kit is really not based on raw damage. To some using Attack and Crit damage sets is overkill but regardless those sets can be a good option as well. The other reason for HP and Defense sets is the CC it provides for your team composition.

Substats[]

  • Bracer/Ring - Attack
  • Necklace/Earring -Defense
  • Belt / Rune - HP

Usage[]

Meliodas is a great unit that can work in all game content, such as farming, Story Mode, or even endgame content like Demonic Beast Battles.

PVP[]

Meliodas protects his demon allies (including himself) and can dish out heavy damage when True Magic is applied. Meliodas is also equipped with a self-cleanse to help eliminate any problematic debuff. Meliodas works at his best in two teams: a full Demon team and a Seven Deadly Sins team. The Demon team should include Blue Festival Berserk Estarossa and Dark Tyrant Demon King, with Blue Demon Cusack as a sub. Blue Chandler can also work in this team to remove some pressure from Meliodas and the Demon King. On the other hand, the 7DS team is a setup that surrounds Meliodas with other strong units, for example, Light Transcendent Ban and Red Festival Queen Diane or Light Queen Elizabeth, with Green Festival Zeldris as a sub. This formation aims for high CC and offensive power while controlling the enemies’ stats and keeping them at their lowest possible.

PVE[]

Purgatory Meliodas is a solid choice for any kind of PVE content such as Death Matches (Red Demon, Gray Demon, Crimson Demon Howlex, and Original Demon), however he is less effective on Gray Demon since all of his attacks are melee.

Hraesvelgr[]

Meliodas is an excellent choice for this hard fight as he can often brute force this fight hitting the damage cap easily and effectively breaking through the infamous stage 1 phase 4 section in the fight. Pairing him with Blue Festival Berserk Estarossa can allow him to Inflict Darkness since Demon and/or Commandment allies with him Inflicts Darkness making you deal more damage to the boss and allow Darkness to be inflicted on previously mentioned infamous stage 1 phase 4 section and allow the boss to take damage more easily.

Skoll and Hati[]

Given how difficult this fight can get for some players even for the most experienced ones, Meliodas can make a difference. Again Meliodas’s tremendous damage output can push through phases faster.

Although he has fallen off, Meliodas is still a strong alternative and a fun choice for PVP and PVE content.
